Meatty quote 4
But my heart sunk within me as with bitter sickness, and I refrained. I saw him on the point of repeating his blow, when, overcome by pain and anguish, I quitted the cottage and in the general tumult escaped unperceived to my hovel.
-monster (chapter 15)
No duh, they attacked the monster. He’s an 8 foot monster! Although he deserved what he got because he did not fully think his actions though, I feel sorry for him. All the monster wants is to be part of a family.
During this part of the novel, the monster confronts the father and all is well until the children come. The monster wants to have “something” in this world. He is alone in the world. As people we want to find a partner. I can’t imagine how it must feel to know that you are alone and the thoughts that you will never find someone. The monster wants to be part of “something” in this world so bad that he puts up with the attack of Felix.
The monster is confused as why the De Laceys would leave, he offered everything to them. The result of his actions and the actions of the Del Laceys leave the monster with a hatred for mankind. His hatred for mankind narrows down to his creator who has abandoned him in this world. I feel for the monster, to be reject is never a good feeling. To be abandoned is an even worse feeling. Although the monster deserved what he got because of his actions he does not deserve to be left to fend for himself in an unknown world.
